Training

I completed my bachelors degree in biochemical science at Harvard University, where I also studied literary and cultural theory and began to develop an interest in understanding our mental lives from multiple perspectives. I pursued medical training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and completed a residency in adult psychiatry at the University of California-San Francisco, where I had speciality training in areas including women's mental health, depression and bipolar disorder, trauma, crisis management, and student health. 
I remain engaged in learning as an active member of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and make great efforts to stay updated on the latest evolving psychiatric treatments.

Approach

I take a collaborative approach toward helping patients achieve their goals, which begins with a full evaluation process that can last from one to a few sessions, until we have reached an understanding of what the difficulties are and we can discuss treatment recommendations. I believe strongly in both understanding and treating symptoms and difficulties in living in the context of a whole person. I have had training in multiple approaches to psychotherapy, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, control-mastery, and dialectical-behavioral and seek to work with patients to broaden their range of emotional and cognitive experience, gain insight into their psychological functioning, and make improvements in their qualities of life. In certain circumstances, medications can play an important role in achieving these goals and in alleviating suffering, and when appropriate, we can explore this possibility together. I also provide medication evaluation and management to patients who are already in psychotherapy and decide with their therapists to pursue this type of adjunctive treatment.
